Tarangire National park

Step into one of northern Tanzania’s hidden gems, where giant baobabs tower over the landscape and elephants gather in some of the largest herds in Africa. Tarangire may be quieter than its famous neighbors, but its wildlife experiences are just as unforgettable.

Here, the Tarangire River winds through savannahs, drawing countless animals during the dry season. Birdlife flourishes across its wetlands, while ancient termite mounds and acacia woodlands create a landscape full of character and contrast.

A safari in Tarangire with SubSaharan Expeditions is more than an elephant encounter — it’s a journey into unspoiled wilderness, where rare species roam freely, the scenery feels timeless, and every game drive offers the thrill of discovery.

Package itinerary:

Discover the diverse beauty of Tarangire National Park, one of Tanzania’s most scenic and compact safari destinations.

Morning

  • Depart Arusha (around 7:00 AM) for a scenic drive through the Maasai Steppe toward Tarangire National Park (approx. 2–3 hours).

  • Enter the park and begin your first game drive. Watch for elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, and predators as you explore the savannahs dotted with iconic baobab trees.

Midday

  • Enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the park’s designated picnic sites, often with sweeping views of the Tarangire River.

  • Relax, take photos, and soak in the sounds of nature.

Afternoon

  • Continue with an extended game drive through different habitats — from riverine forests and wetlands to open plains rich with wildlife. Bird enthusiasts will especially enjoy the abundance of species here.

  • Spot large elephant herds, tree-climbing pythons, and perhaps even lions resting in the shade.

Evening

  • Exit the park by late afternoon (around 4:00–5:00 PM) and return to Arusha, arriving in the evening.
